Test the screen, not just the desk

Desk glare usually appears after the lamp, monitor, window, and seating position interact. Turn on the lamp and look at the monitor from the normal working posture, then tilt or rotate the screen only after checking the lamp angle.

Watch for bright shade edges, glossy monitor reflections, shadows from hands, and light aimed across the eyes instead of across the work surface.

  • Check reflection on the monitor from normal posture.
  • Move the lamp before raising brightness.
  • Test keyboard, paper, and mouse zones separately.
  • Check window light at the time of day the desk is used.

A desk lamp can light the desk and still fail the monitor.

Fit check

Decision and verification steps

If glare appears on the screen, move the lamp to the side or behind the monitor plane before changing color temperature. If hand shadows cross the work area, adjust lamp height or direction rather than relying on more brightness.

Verify bulb limits, shade orientation, and safe cord routing. If eye strain persists, treat the setup as unresolved and review the full workstation lighting path.

  • If screen reflection is visible, change lamp angle or location.
  • If hand shadows block work, adjust height or side placement.
  • If glare hits the eyes, add diffusion or reduce direct line of sight.
  • Confirm cord and bulb limits before final placement.

Glare troubleshooting should follow the user's actual working posture.
